The purpose of this is to determine whether an addiction is present, the extent of the addiction, whether there are co-occuring conditions, and to assist in the development of a treatment plan. It is broken down into two steps: Screening and Assessment. Screening is a process for evaluating the positive presence of a particular problem. It's ususally a yes or no. Assessment is a process for defining the nature of the problem, the diagnosis and developing specific treatment recommendations for addressing the problem or diagnosis.
